Patient Stories

Offering Support…

adult-neurology-patient-story2My wife was referred to Raleigh Neurology to be seen because her left hand had started to shake. At our first visit, we were relieved to find out it was simply an essential tremor which could be easily managed. Unfortunately, during the routine exam for a follow-up appointment, my wife did very poorly on her mini mental status. Based on what her doctor saw, he suggested we visit a neuropsychologist for evaluation and testing. Our family was devastated when the testing revealed our worst fears; my wife had early onset Alzheimer’s.

Over the next few years, the care team at Raleigh Neurology was instrumental in helping our family navigate through the pitfalls of this horrendous disease and they have worked to keep my wife as functional as possible for as long as possible. Without their help we would have never known there was an issue and treatment that has helped maintain her memory for as long as possible may not have been possible or nearly as successful.

My Child…

child-development-patient-story-option1Our young son’s teacher reached out to let us know she had some concerns about his progression and attention in school. After a meeting with the school, they directed us to speak with our pediatrician. The pediatrician met with us and after hearing our concerns, recommended we see a Developmental Pediatrician at Raleigh Neurology. The referral was submitted and RNA contacted us regarding the information they needed to get our son scheduled. It takes a bit of time to get in but it is well worth it.

Once our son was seen, his doctor was able to determine that he did have ADHD. We were able to test out a medication and found it to be immediately effective. My son went from being anxious and disconnected to being able to engage, focus and be an active participant in his class and his life.

New Horizons…

clinical-researchI was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 17 years ago. I was asked over 10 years ago if I was interested in being in a research trial for new medications being tested for use in treating MS patients. When asked about participation in a research trial, I thought it would be a great idea as I can assist in the research to find a cure for MS and help others newly diagnosed. I have never regretted my decision. The test medication is free, you have regular appointments with a doctor to monitor for adverse reactions, should you have a relapse while on the test medication you are given a steroid treatment free of charge and also given the choice if you would like to continue on the medication or opt out. My experience dealing with Raleigh Neurology and the research trials have been excellent; the care you receive during the trial is above and beyond expectations.

Offering Options…

ms-patient-storyI was diagnosed with MS by my PCP when I was just 18 years old. He referred me to RNA to confirm the diagnosis and for treatment options. My RNA doctor was able to confirm I did have MS and began to walk me and my parents through my options. Since this was well before any of the IV or oral drugs, the options were relatively limited. We were thoroughly educated on all the options and asked to make decision on which option I felt was best for me. From that first injectable medication to today’s infusion options, my care team at RNA has helped guide me to make informed choices that have worked for me. I’m now 32 years old and secure in the knowledge that I have a team I can trust to help me navigate the future while using the best therapy options available to me.

Brighter Days…

sleep-medicine-patient-storyI came to Raleigh Neurology Associates because my wife was tired of my snoring! I saw one of the sleep doctors and he ordered a sleep study for me. We found out I had relatively mild sleep apnea however the doctor’s description of its impact on my body was instrumental in my deciding to pursue his recommended course of treatment. Following that advice was one of my best decisions ever. Both my wife and I now get a proper night’s rest and can function better in our daily life.
