Raleigh Neurology Associates is pleased to welcome Dr. Cheryl McNeil to the practice. Dr. McNeil grew up here in the Triangle. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1990, where she graduated as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society for academic achievement. She then received her MD from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in 1995, where she graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society for academic achievement.

She completed her medical internship and residency in neurology at Wake Forest University in 1999, where she served as chief resident, and then went on to fellowship training in neuro-oncology at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. McNeil directed the outpatient clinic at Wake Forest University from 2001-2006. Since then she has held various faculty and administrative positions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. McNeil has won numerous medical education awards including the Hyman Battle Basic Science Teaching Award in 2010 and in 2016 and the Hyman Battle Clinical Teaching Award in 2011.

Dr. McNeil was the UNC School of Medicine Commencement speaker in 2012 and inducted into the Whitehead Society for excellence in medical education in 2014. She has served at the American Academy of Neurology for over 20 years and was the Director of Clinical Academic Resources at University of North Carolina School of Medicine for four years. Dr. McNeil is active with her alma mater and her kids’ schools. Her husband, Mike, is an anesthesiologist in Raleigh, and they have two wonderful teenaged children, Todd and Katie.
