Referring Physicians and Other Health Care Providers

We at Raleigh Neurology Associates appreciate the referrals that come to us from physicians and other health care providers from the Triangle area and beyond. Only a small percentage of our business is “self-referred.” Our aim, therefore, is to make the referral process as seamless as possible.

Contacting Us

Our office on 1540 Sunday Drive is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 5 PM. We have an answering service which can reach an adult neurologist or pediatric neurologist during all non-business hours. In the unlikely event you cannot reach a physician from RNA after hours by calling the main number (919-782-3456), you may call the answering service directly at 919-831-5536 and ask the operator to locate the appropriate neurologist on call.

During business hours, we have one adult neurologist assigned as the triage physician whose role is to field emergency calls from health care providers and patients particularly in the event that a patient’s regular neurologist is unavailable. The triage physician will be available to work with referring physicians and referring practitioners to facilitate urgent evaluations. We have a physician and PA available from 8:00 AM through 5:00 PM weekdays at Wake Med Raleigh Campus and Rex Healthcare to take care of both in-patient neurological emergencies and in-patient neurological consultations. We also cover neurological services at Wake Med Cary Hospital.

In order to make the appointment go as smoothly as possible for the patient as well as for all of the physicians, please remind the patient to bring pertinent medical records to the appointment. If there are imaging procedures (MRIs or CTs), please ask your patients to bring them to the appointment. If the imaging was done at Rex or at the Wake Radiology offices on Merton Drive or Lake Boone Trail, we can access them on-line and save everyone a lot of time.

Patient Care

There are many ways that we at Raleigh Neurology can serve our referral sources. Please let the physicians at Raleigh Neurology know if you want advice on a diagnosis, directions on patient management, or if you want us to assume principal responsibility for management such as with a patient with multiple sclerosis or intractable migraine. We want to provide our referring physicians and other health care providers with care tailored to their needs. We recognize that patients come to us for many reasons so let us know how we can help you most effectively in the care of your patients.

Our Facility

Our 40,000 square foot facility houses a host of neurological services. Dr. Richard Tim directs our neurodiagnostic laboratory providing on-going physician oversight of all nerve conduction and electromyographic studies. We have an overnight sleep lab which is easy for patients to get to, which is directed by Dr. Tom Perkins and is fully certified.  Sleep studies can be done in a comfortable setting and the patient does not have to fight hospital traffic and parking. We are located conveniently just off I-40 near all of the major medical centers in the area.
